About Stellar Discovery
Hello, and welcome to Stellar Discovery. My name is Mike Soulby, and I launched Stellar discovery in 2020 as a way to share my interest and passion for astronomy and astrophotography.
I have been interested in astronomy for a long as I can remember; owning my first Newtonian reflecting telescope when I was just 14, I have been observing the night sky for over 20 years.
My interest in physics and astronomy followed me through school and onto university. Obtaining a bachelors degree in Physics in 2005 and then a PhD in Physics from the University of Sheffield in 2010. Since then, I have made a career working in the photonics and optics industry, working on a wide range of applications, from astronomy to fiber optics.
Through this website, I hope that I can pass on some of my knowledge and experiences to you, hopefully helping you reduce some of the trial and error that can sometimes come along with this hobby.
I will aim to post as often as I can, which can sometimes be difficult with a full-time job and a young family to contend with. Please consider subscribing or following the website on social media if you don’t want to miss out on my latest posts and astrophotography images.
